Proposition 1A

So, one of the propositions on the California is 1A, , or the "Safe, Reliable High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act for the 21st Century". If passed, it would provide for the sale of bonds in order to build a high speed rail connecting Los Angeles and San Francisco. We've talked a lot about spaces in Los Angeles, but less about in California. California is kind of an odd state in that it is highly populated but geographically large. For example, when visiting colleges, I spent about six hours driving down the East Coast, and passed through five states. It takes about eight hours to drive to San Francisco, and that is not the northernmost part of California.

Obviously, this train would make it much easier to get between these two cities. Two of the main arguments for it are that it would make this travel more convenient and reduce CO2 emissions. However, one of the main arguments against it is that people are having less trouble getting to other parts of the state, and more trouble getting to work every day (it seems to me that we could reduce more emmissions by creating a better public transportation system within LA county).

To sum up, this proposition seems to be ignoring the problem of LA county commuters, but it would also make this other section of the state more accessible. How do people feel about this in relation to what we just read?
