''claim your marginality''

The mantra of ''claim your marginality'' is especially relevant to meXicana Encounters.  Where there is a borderland, there is a disputed territory where elements converge.  Individuals are faced with needing to embracing one, the other, parts, both or neither.  When the merging cultures stand for different identities, values, and cultures, the individual herself becomes the territory of dispute.

It is easier said than done to claim your marginality and stake your own terms, rather than be oppressed by conflicting realities.  This is especially harder when the mass media defines what you should be for the general public.

In a globalizing country where information is being exchanged and realities compared like never before, new borders are being discovered.  I believe ''claiming your marginality'' will become increasingly relevant in the public eye in the near future.
