I thought of some movies that displayed what I was talking about today in class during our discussion about covers. It was common for writers in the 50's and 60's to distribute their songs to different groups from various genres--- as displayed in the first clip from Hairspray. In my second clip from Dreamgirls (which is in Spanish btw- but not the songs). It does a good job depicting how record companies and radio stations worked together for profit, and often White performers with the same song were more successful in the end.
