This is from week before last, but Stephen Colbert had Sherman Alexie, a Native American author, on his show; they make jokes about race and ethnicity and talk a bit about politics. The most interesting point for me is that near the end Colbert brings up (makes Alexie bring up) the concept of "Indian Giving", where you give something and then take it away, and Alexie says that it's actually something that Native Americans assimilated from Europeans.
Not directly relevant to our current topics, but I found that thought of reverse assimilation (of a negative but survivalist technique) interesting and thought I'd share.
