Another aspect of racism in sports....

I am interested in  the use of racist imagery in the mascots of American sports teams.  Mascots are one of the most public faces of a sport teams and this debate is happening (or already happened) in schools throughout the country. What do you feel the impact of racial stereotypes as mascots are? Do you see any correlation between this and Yu's article?

The NCAA banned the University of Illinois' from hosting post season games as long as they have Chief Illiniwek as their mascot. U of I retired the mascot but in 2007 the school's chancellor, Richard Herman, brought the chief back saying that the NCAA's ban is a constitutional violation of free speech. 

 After controversially being retired last year, Chief Illiniwek resurfaced last weekend at the University of Illinois' Homecoming parade.
