Suggestions for blog posts

If you are having trouble thinking of where to start your blog post, you might consider the following topics/links:

--The Lee article's discussion of language made me think of the movie Sixteen Candles. There is an interesting NPR story about the character Long Duk Dong here.

--Did anyone see the "The Dance: The History of American Minstrelsy" when it was at Pomona last fall? Here is a clip where the two guys explain their project.

--You could read more about Bert Williams or watch Bamboozled.

--Vaudeville star Sophie Tucker used blackface early in her career. You can read opinions about this here and here.

--As Dashiell noted, Tropic Thunder played with blackface last fall. What did critics say about it? Here is one place to start.

--Can you find examples of recent controversies about blackface?

These are just a few examples to get you started, but you should feel to post about anything you see connecting to the reading.
