I saw a poster for "The Slants" a couple weeks back. I didn't have a chance to make it to their show in Denver, but they sounds like an interesting new group.
Their website notes that they wanted to "create synthesizer-driven rock n’ roll but with an Asian twist," and that “We have a song called Sakura, Sakura where we take hateful rhymes about Asians and we turn them into a song about unity and being proud of our heritage.”
They have also found a number of fans at anime conventions...an interesting point of pop culture convergence.
