Diversity in the U.S. Army

The Army is airing a TV commercial to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the integration of the armed forces. The phrase that caught my attention was "A diverse army is a strong army."

As we will see later in Melanie McAllister's Epic Encounters later in the semester, "military multiculturalism" was also promoted during the first gulf war.

Also, read this Colorlines article on women veterans of color who have returned home from service in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the article:
"There are about 200,000 active-duty military women today, some 14 percent of the total force, according to federal data. About half of them are women of color."
